Citation details: E-mail 19 Dec 2013 Text: Dorothea "Dot" Staats, 78, of Shannon, Illinois, died at Freeport Memorial Hospital on Sunday, July 13, 1997.
She was born in Shannon on November 21, 1918, the daughter of Charles H. and Annie Gertrude (Bevan) Rodermel. She was a 1936 graduate of Shannon High School and a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon. She had worked as a bookkeeper then later was employed by Jim Scharman of Henry Scharman and Sons Furniture Store in Shannon. She was an expert seamstress and enjoyed reading and working both crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She is survived by two daughters: Pamela A.(Keith) Remmers of Greenville, South Carolina and Lisa D. (Dr. William, D.V.M) Condie of Freeport, Ilinois. Six granddaughters: Nicole (Kevin) Simmons; Jaimie and Shiloh Remmers; four great-grandchildren, all of Greenville, South Carolina; Jessica, Allison and Michelle Condie of Freeport, Illinois. Three brothers: Charles (Barbara) Rodermel, Laramie, Wyoming; Kenneth (Geneva) Rodermel, Scottsdale, Arizona; and Donald Rodermel, Palm Springs, California. Four sisters: Charlotte Flickinger, Lanark, Illinois; M. Margaret (Homer) Fogel, Freeport, Illinois; Roberta (Laverne) Livingston, Eddyville, Kentucky; and Carole (Donn) Muckey, Anaheim, California. Also numerous nieces and some nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and a brother, Lewis. A private inurnment ceremony was held in Brethren Cemetery, prior to the memorial service which was held on July 15, 1997 in Shannon. Reverend Larry Thompson officiated and John McPherson was organist. A memorial fund has been established for Bethel United Methodist Church of Shannon and Freeport Home Health Care.
