Text: “This is the last Will and Testament of me Matthias MUMBERSON of Scales in the township of Lorton and County of Cumberland. Retired Farmer. I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Elizabeth during her natural life the dividends arising from ten shares in the Carlisle City and District Banking Company Limited, and one share in the Cumberland Union Banking Company Limited, and the interest arising from monies deposited in the Banks and on the one hundred pounds lent to Thomas GRAVES of Hesket Hall. And I also give and bequeath on the death of my said wife to my son Stephen MUMBERSON of Low Lorton the above named ten shares in the Carlisle City and District Banking Company and the one share in the Cumberland Union Banking Company Limited. I also give and bequeath unto my son Stephen MUMBERSON, my daughter Mary Ann SWINDLE and my son Reuben MUMBERSON in equal parts (after my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses are paid) the whole of my household furniture, loose cash, monies deposited in banks, cash lent, and all other effects or cash whatsoever. I desire that the above named Stephen MUMBERSON, Mary Ann SWINDLE and Reuben MUMBERSON send to my son James MUMBERSON, now living in Canada, fifty pounds out of the above named furniture, cash, etc. And I appoint my son Stephen MUMBERSON executor to this my last Will and Testament and I hereby revoke all former Wills and Testamentary dispositions herein before made by me and declaring this only to be my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this sixteenth day of May one thousand eight hundred and eighty one. Signed by the said Matthias MUMBERSON the testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us present at the same time who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witness. Text: “This is the last Will and Testament of me Matthias MUMBERSON of Scales in the township of Lorton and County of Cumberland. Retired Farmer. I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Elizabeth during her natural life the dividends arising from ten shares in the Carlisle City and District Banking Company Limited, and one share in the Cumberland Union Banking Company Limited, and the interest arising from monies deposited in the Banks and on the one hundred pounds lent to Thomas GRAVES of Hesket Hall. And I also give and bequeath on the death of my said wife to my son Stephen MUMBERSON of Low Lorton the above named ten shares in the Carlisle City and District Banking Company and the one share in the Cumberland Union Banking Company Limited. I also give and bequeath unto my son Stephen MUMBERSON, my daughter Mary Ann SWINDLE and my son Reuben MUMBERSON in equal parts (after my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses are paid) the whole of my household furniture, loose cash, monies deposited in banks, cash lent, and all other effects or cash whatsoever. I desire that the above named Stephen MUMBERSON, Mary Ann SWINDLE and Reuben MUMBERSON send to my son James MUMBERSON, now living in Canada, fifty pounds out of the above named furniture, cash, etc. And I appoint my son Stephen MUMBERSON executor to this my last Will and Testament and I hereby revoke all former Wills and Testamentary dispositions herein before made by me and declaring this only to be my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this sixteenth day of May one thousand eight hundred and eighty one. Signed by the said Matthias MUMBERSON the testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us present at the same time who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witness. Text: Proved at Carlisle the third day of June 1882 by the oath of Stephen MUMBERSON, son of the testator, the sole executor named in the Will, to whom administration was granted.
The testator Matthias MUMBERSON was formerly of Scales in the township of Lorton, and late of Keswick, both in the County of Cumberland and died on the twentieth day of April at Keswick aforesaid. Gross value of personal estate £717 : 10 : 0 J. Lowthian, Solicitor, Keswick.
